‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Finale: Maisie Williams Discusses Walder Frey Murder
In the books, Catelyn Stark comes back from the dead as Stoneheart to seek revenge for the Red Wedding. But how exactly would Arya kill Cersei? Walder Frey inquired as to the whereabouts of his sons. She has also killed his sons, Lothar and Black Walder, carved them up and baked them in a pie. But one of the most rewarding moments was our favorite young wolf Arya Stark getting to cross one more name off her kill list.
Another name on Arya’s list is that of Melisandre (Carice Van Houten), who traded her bag of gold for Gendry (Joe Dempsie), Arya’s friend, from the Brotherhood Without Banners.
Arya’s list had only a few names at first, but has grown significantly in four seasons. But before murdering him, she has a surprise. Polliver was a man-at-arms in service of House Lannister. So run away now if you have not watched the episode yet.
On the other side, Rorge was a criminal, recruited into the Night’s Watch. Because she wouldn’t know how her mother, Caitlyn Stark, was killed at the Red Wedding.
Arya (Maisie Williams) failed to mention it at the time she quit the Faceless Men, but she actually planned on making a pit stop or two before returning home. If you’ve seen Game of Thrones’ finale – and hopefully you have, because we’ve already gotten deep into spoiler territory – then you know where this is going: they were Frey pies, and some of the most twisted execution of vengeance in all of Martin’s novels. She will then take his face, using it to trick Cersei, and then kill her, thereby fulfilling the prophecy (sort of).
After all, Sandor “The Hound” Clegane and Arya have something of a love/hate relationship – one that could just as easily end in Arya unceremoniously setting the Hound on fire as it could with the pair teaming up to take down Cersei and The Mountain (Clegane-Bowl lives!) in a glorious close to, say, season seven. Payne is the man that beheaded Arya’s father during season 1 of Game of Thrones. She initially had him on her list for killing her friend Mycah (Rhodri Hosking) in Season 1. Arya reveals that the two are with him at the hall, and have been made into pies that he was eating. She led King Joffrey Baratheon to sentence Arya’s father to death. On the other hand, Thoros of Myr and Beric Dondarrion sold Gendry to Melisandre and for the same reason, they need to be punished as well.
Having just been cut adrift from her “prince that was promised”-related duties by a surprisingly merciful Jon Snow, Melisandre seems likely to be riding south – and thus towards a likely far less forgiving younger Stark”. Arya has not had a chance to kill him, but several others have done it.
