‘Game of Thrones’ will end with Season 8
The creators had already started warning fans the Game of Thrones could be coming to an end in the next two or so years, and now we have a semi-confirmation.
“Believe me, as the new guy, if I could get them do to more, I would take 10 more seasons”. And any Game of Thrones fans hoping to prove otherwise will be disappointed this morning as United States network HBO have announced the fantasy series will conclude after its eighth series.
During the Television Critics Association press tour, HBO programming executive Casey Bloys said the eighth season is the last.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bloys explained: “We’ve talked about it. It’s not something I’m opposed to but it has to make sense creatively”.
The show stars television and film actors Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, and Kit Harington in pivotal roles.
That’s a sensible approach, rather than dragging it out for the sake of more money, and means the showrunners get to tell the story the way they want to.
Look, if we’re doing spinoffs, we’d rather see a prequel that takes place during the War of the Usurper / Robert’s Rebellion and show us the Battle of the Trident once and for all.
Production on season seven will begin later than usual – because storylines require colder than usual weather – and they will be shooting in Northern Ireland, Spain, and Iceland.
However, Bloys would go on to note that there hasn’t been a decision regarding just how many episodes season eight will have.
Talking about a spin-off series, Bloys said that he has held discussions about it. However, Benioff and Weiss are busy preparing for “Game of Thrones” Season 7, which is set to start filming soon.
However, the new season of Game of Thrones is going to be delayed due to winter. There’s no word yet on how many episodes Season 8, the final season, will have, but that too is expected to be shortened from 10 to possibly six.
