Game Over for One of the Biggest Piracy Groups in the World
Piracy group 3DM has said that it will not crack any single-player games for the next year.
Known for cracking GTA V and Federation Internationale de Football Association 15, 3DM attracts millions of pirate-gamers to its forum on a monthly basis, which means that the team’s decision to temporarily suspend cracking single-player games might have huge impact on the gaming industry. 3DM is just one of the more prolific cracking groups out there. Perhaps 3DM wants to see if the effort of cracking Denuvo is even worth it. If 3DM decides a lack of piracy did nothing, or maybe even lowered, potential game sales, they may raise their cudgels and work on breaking Denuvo again then. According to the group, however, the reason is not connected with its frustration with anti-piracy measures being implemented on games such as ‘Just Cause 3’. What I noted is that they chose to do this at the same time they started working on Denuvo protected games.
“We just had an internal meeting”, Bird Sister wrote via TorrentFreak.
However, she noted that cracks created by other groups could still be posted on the 3DM forums, but that the group will deal with them.
Just Cause 3 had been out for a month at that point and it had still yet to be cracked; almost driving the China based cracking group’s lead “cracking guy” to breaking point.
Of course 3DM isn’t the only group cracking games and will not be the last. Bird Sister states that 3DM’s decision to drop anchor is to see if pirating games actually affects the industry.
