Ganguly does not rule out coaching India in future
“The cricket advisory committee which consists of three eminent cricketers, namely Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, Mr.Sourav Ganguly and Mr. VVS Laxman in association with Mr Sanjay Jagdale, who will act as Chief Co-ordinator of this committee for the goal of the selection of the Head Coach will be handed over the 21 eligible applications”, the release stated.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Selection Committee Chairman and former Indian cricket team member Sandeep Patil has revealed that he is yet to receive any communication from the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) that has been entrusted by the BCCI for selecting the next coach of the Indian cricket team.
A permanent head coach for Team India’s senior squad is expected to be picked up tomorrow when three former batting maestros- Sachin Tendulkar, Souravb Gagnuly and VVS Laxman- interview 21 aspirants. Now I have the opportunity to select a coach. Currently, he heads the International Cricket Council’s Cricket Committee. The BCCI hopes to finalise the candidate by June 24 and make the big announcement on the sidelines of its working committee meeting in Dharamsala. “Hopefully someday will sit for it”, Ganguly said at an event where he announced the name of his book – “A century is not enough”. Among the foreign applicants, former Australian players Stuart Law and Tom Moody also gave their presentations via video conference. I felt happy.” “I am a normal human being, who wanted to do well in a profession, which I loved the most. “I had taken an interview (of Chappell) once and it did not go off well”, Ganguly was quoted as saying. While Kumble made a presentation reportedly chalking out his plans for the 2019 World Cup and to make India a No.1 Test side, Shastri interacted with the committee via video conferencing.
Rajput had a none-too-bright worldwide career, turning out for India in only two Tests and four ODIs.
Moody had a modest player biodata, but did well as coach of the Sri Lankan team, by stewarding them to the 2007 world Cup final.
Ravi Shastri is among the front-runners to be appointed as India’s cricket coach. He has coached the national teams of Hong Kong, Kenya, Scotland, New Zealand, and Afghanistan over the past 15 years.
Ganguly accepted that being the coach of the Indian team did cross his mind a couple of years back. The BCCI had received a total of 57 responses to its advertisement for the job, and 21 of them were shortlisted for the advisory committee to review. But on Tuesday the trio chose to interview just seven of them.
