Ganguly officially takes over as CAB president
Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday took over as President of Cricket Association of Bengal.
Abhishek, son of the late Jagmohan Dalmiya, who became joint secretary in the place vacated by Ganguly, was also elected unopposed at the SGM. “I can guarantee you in the next 3 months Eden Gardens will have such infrastructure”, he said.
“I have been around the world for 20 years and seen nearly every cricket venue”.
Ganguly’s professionalism was evident ahead of him taking over the hot seat as he roped in IDBI Federal Life Insurance as sponsor of Bengal teams for two years across all age groups at a glittering ceremony at Eden Gardens.
Ganguly and Abhishek Dalmiya, the son of Jagmohan Dalmiya, had filed their nomination papers for CAB president and joint secretary respectively early this week. “We have got a few issues with the ground, we have to try and rectify it. We will try and bring system into the association and make sure that the best possible equipment is available”, he said.
Ganguly also said he would not try and fill in the shoes of Jagmohan Dalmiya, but instead work in his own style.
Avishek Dalmiya has been inducted as the joint-secretary of the board. “I feel Saurav, who was an able captain of the Indian team, is the right man to take the post of CAB president”, she had said.
Ganguly also said CAB has plans to revitalise junior cricket where young kids will be groomed from the age of 8-9 so that they turn world beaters by 15.
“We have revitalised all cricket. CAB has both the money and the infrastructure to do that”. “It would have been a gap had I not scored the century”, an emotional Ganguly said.
