GarageBand 2.1 for iOS adds Live Loops and 3D Touch
The app also acts as a single repository of all musical ideas, including working lyrics, snippets of real-world sounds and whatever else one uses in their song-writing endeavours.
Music Memos is a free download and is compatible with anything that runs iOS 9, including the iPhone 4S and newer, iPad 2 and newer, and both fifth- and sixth-generation iPod Touches.
Alongside the introduction of Music Memos, Apple also announced Garageband 2.1 for iOS. Music Memo, which Apple says was inspired by Voice Memos, can tag songs based on sound, location or a rating, and recordings can be shared on Apple Music Connect, SoundCloud and YouTube. You can customise how your virtual backing band plays until you get the feel that your song requires. Music Memos can even provide basic notation that displays the chords played. This not only keeps apps from secretly downloading your information, but it more importantly prevents developers from potentially giving or selling your personal information to others without your knowledge.
The app now includes a new feature called Live Loops that lets you create electronic music loops. A number of loops are pre-loaded but advanced musicians can also create their own.
I spent a few days playing with the GarageBand update on an iPad Pro, and while it turns out I’m no Madeon, I still walked away from the experience feeling like kind of a badass.
GarageBand 2.1 for iOS introduces Live Loops, a new feature for creating music by tapping cells and columns in a grid to trigger different looped instruments and samples. For more information about the new GarageBand for iOS, visit, www.apple.com/ios/garageband.
GarageBand comes with a large library of Apple-designed Live Loops templates in categories like EDM, Dubstep, Rock and Hip Hop, but you can also create your own. Apple’s four software platforms – iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS – provide seamless experiences across all Apple devices and empower people with breakthrough services including the App Store, Apple Music, Apple Pay and iCloud.
The new GarageBand update is free for all iOS users.
