Garde admits struggles of attracting players to Aston Villa
The Villa fans were more generous to the Wanderers players, who they applauded from the field.
Villa are really struggling this season and despite bringing in a new manager in Remi Garde they have still only won one game all season and things are looking really bleak.
The Birmingham born striker has spent all his career at Villa, but may now make a move away from the Premier Leagues bottom club.
Villa are rooted to the Premier League’s foot, and came under huge fire from fans during and after Saturday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw at League Two Wycombe.
Chief executive Tom Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt were in NY on Monday to meet owner Randy Lerner to talk about transfer plans.
“I had a conversation with Arsene a few days ago about some of the players and Mathieu Debuchy was among these players”, said Garde.
“It’s more because I’m facing you every week but actually I knew Villa from inside for only 10 weeks now”.
Their fans were singing about relegation yesterday and Garde can not have failed to hear the mutinous reaction when the dark humour made way for open dissent.
“When I arrived he was not totally fit, I don’t know exactly what happened between August and the beginning of November”.
“And then I’m hoping the Villa fans will respect Wycombe again and turn up in numbers, not boycott Villa or anything like that, because we need the cash!”
“I don’t feel players are letting down but we have to cope with the situation – it is a very hard one that is going on”.
The French boss refused to accept his players are failing him however, despite another frustrating weekend. “I’m still happy about the team, I’m still believing they are trying to do their best but at some point you have to recognise that if they are doing their best and we are still not winning then there is a problem”, he said.
Injuries haven’t done his cause any favours whatsoever, with key players like Gabriel Agbonlahor, Alan Hutton and Carlos Sanchez and Adama Traore all now out with injuries.
“He has been suffering with tonsilitis, he’s had a fever and he’s been taking antiobiotics”, said Garde of Grealish.
Charles N’Zogbia and Libor Kozak are available but are not expected to feature with Garde prepared to let them leave this month.
Crystal Palace do not want to give Aston Villa any encouragement, says Keith Millen.
For much of this season, the majority of supporters at Villa Park have sat in stunned silence, although Garde expressed the wish that they would get behind the team against as they did on Boxing Day, when an improved performance earned a 1-1 draw with West Ham United.
“They have got some good players, Villa”.
