Garnett returning to Timberwolves
According to reports, Kevin Garnett will finish his career where he started it, with the Timberwolves.
Free agents such as Garnett cannot sign contracts until Thursday but can agree to terms, while deals can be completed with draft picks such as Towns, a star for the University of Kentucky last season.
Garnett will likely act as a mentor for the team’s stable of young bigs, which includes a reigning Rookie of the Year in Andrew Wiggins, a ex- No. 1 overall pick in Anthony Bennett, and this summer’s top pick in the National Basteball Association Draft, Karl-Anthony Towns. While Towns projects to be a superstar down the road, he’s still relatively raw and will take some time to develop.
Minnesota is expecting the 39-year-old Garnett to play in the 20-minute range next season, sources told Stein.
The Timberwolves also signed guard Tyus Jones, the 24th overall selection from Duke University. Garnett will be relied upon to supply that veteran leadership and hopefully instill a winning mentality into a team that desperately seeks to be successful. Coach/basketball boss Flip Saunders said late in the season that Garnett’s caution with his body was a sign that he intended to return to play a 21st pro season. Each player on Minnesota’s roster will benefit from Garnett’s teachings. In sports, it’s not always about the talent you possess, it’s about how you use the talent that’s important.
