Garry Marshall, ‘Happy Days’ Creator, Dies At 81
Thank you for being such a special human. “I believe that television was, and still is, the only medium that can truly reach society’s lowest common denominator and entertain those people who maybe can’t afford a movie or a play”.
Off set, Garry was considered by many to be a warm and kindhearted soul. The entertainment industry has lost a comedic genius and a good man. And no one is a finer or funnier chronicler of friendship – male or female (or alien) – than Garry Marshall.
Years later, Marshall directed the romantic comedy “Pretty Woman” starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts.
Topher Grace, who starred in Valentine’s Day opposite Anne Hathaway, posted this sweet picture.
His work extended beyond the silver screen, too, penning scripts and overseeing production on both Mork and Mindy and Happy Days.
“Thank you Gary for Overboard and all the films you made that had humanity, humour and goodness that lifted our spirits”.
“RIP Garry Marshall. You forever changed my father’s life, and thus, mine. I love you. On the wings on Angels, rest now”.
JESSICA ALBA: I had the honor to work with the legendary.
Marshall, the brother of actress-director Penny Marshall, earned a degree in journalism from Northwestern University and worked at the New York Daily News. “You will be missed”.
Director Garry Marshall arrives as a guest at the 19th Annual ELLE Women in Hollywood dinner in Beverly Hills, California, Oct. 15, 2012. He gave my wife her start at 18, as a makeup artist. “And MANY others. #love”. Marshall continued working until the end, recently finishing a rewrite of the book for a Broadway adaptation of Pretty Woman. “My deepest thoughts to Barbara & the family”.
“Garry Marshall was an original, with an incredible knack for finding and telling stories that resonate in the moment and also stand the test of time”.
Wendell Pierce: “My heart is broken”. Comic genius, Garry Marshall has died. Always kind. Always amusing!
‘Garry and I were shooting Mothers Day this past year my children came to visit the set.
“It was Jackie Gleason’s last film”, Eric tells NPR’s Morning Edition, “and a great mix of comedy and drama, which I think Garry was kind of known for”.
