Gary Gray to Direct Fast and Furious 8
“Together we are eager to present to you the following section in the Fast and Furious adventure”.
Vin Diesel had earlier given a hint about the director as he posted a picture on Facebook with Gray and a collage of photos from the Fast and Furious franchise.
Vin Diesel is known for his rocking body, but the dad-of-three has shown off a softer side as he enjoys a well-deserved break in Miami.
They offered the directorial gig to Justin Lin, who had previously helmed four of the installments, but unfortunately he could not accept it because he has been busy directing “Star Trek Beyond”.
As a director, F. Gary Gray’s career dates back to the mid-1990s when he directed the popular 1995 film Friday starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.
In other news, Gray’s “Straight Outta Compton” co-stars Jason Mitchell, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Corey Hawkins are among the honorees for the 19 Annual Hollywood Film Awards, which will be held on November. 1 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Indie Wire reported.
During the same interview, F. Gary Gray made it clear that his transition from directing music videos to feature films was not an overnight decision.
Diesel also recently announced that the Fast & Furious series will end with “one last trilogy”. Not just has Straight Outta Compton beaten itself in the cinema world, it’s additionally scrounging up Oscar buzz, so this cast is in better than average hands. Vin Diesel apparently wants to make this release a faster one, but hopefully this isn’t going to have any negative implications on the quality of the final product.
