Gary Neville blasts Manchester United hierarchy amid Jose Mourinho reports
Off-field concerns and poor results have compounded an already bumpy Mourinho tenure but the club have confirmed he will remain in place.
The Red Devils host the Magpies at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, with Mourinho still expected to be in charge.
Sacking Mourinho would cost United an estimated £20million and despite his tumultuous stint at Old Trafford, he is unlikely to be out of the game for long given his fantastic record of winning trophies.
United’s sackings of Mourinho’s predecessors, Louis van Gaal and David Moyes, were both reported before the club’s announcements.
Absolutely furious with the Man United board, club legend Gary Neville produced an incredible rant on Sky Sports after being informed of the reports.
United finished second in the league last season and reached the FA Cup final, but despite finishing 19 points behind champions City and losing to Chelsea at Wembley Mourinho believes they over-performed. But a win over Newcastle and the backing of the club would feel more of a stay of execution for Mourinho.
United may turn to Michael Carrick to lead them on a temporary basis, with former Real Madrid manager Zidane possibly being lined up to be the next full-time incumbent. McTominay returns to the side as does Antony Martial & Ashley Young.
“[He is a] very, very, very, good coach”, Mourinho continued. He would be a wonderful choice, considering the 52-year old has an idea of Manchester United’s history.
Without a club since getting sacked by PSG in 2016, Laurent Blanc could see a return to Manchester United as the flawless way to come back into management. On the flip side, if United don’t win this game there’ll be major trouble at Old Trafford.
“What United want is Champions League qualification, year in year out”.
Former player, Laurent Blanc is one of the dark horses in the race for Mourinho’s job.
“The people in the boardroom at this moment in time who are, if you like, overseeing the football operation, are nowhere near good enough”. The opening 20 minutes of their opening day 2-1 win over Leicester remains the best they have played this term, yet the team’s play is a reflection of their manager’s beleaguered manner.
It’s an unlikely appointment, but one that when explored may make more sense that one might think.
