Gary Neville delivers brutal verdict on Liverpool’s display against Leicester
JURGEN KLOPP has fired a warning shot to his under-performing Liverpool stars after they lost 3-1 to Leicester. The Englishman is a very undervalued asset in Klopp’s system.
Arsenal, who are just a point above them in the race for the top four, travel to Anfield on Saturday (4 March) and Klopp sent a strong message to his players. Lucas Leiva in particular struggled to deal with Vardy’s electric pace and found himself turned on more than one occasion throughout the evening.
Danny Drinkwater, who scored Leicester’s second goal and his first of the season courtesy of a superb long-range strike, feels the Foxes have set a standard for the rest of the season. With relegation threatening and a formidable Liverpool side ahead of them, Leicester had some serious questions to answer, and for the first 45 minutes they answered in resounding fashion. Ultimately for Leicester, and any team that has recently been promoted, staying up is the number one priority as the financial benefits are huge compared to playing in the Championship. It gave the match a little bit of late energy and nerves but failed to spark any sort of famous comeback from the Merseysiders.
Liverpool should hang their heads in shame for traditional reasons.
Liverpool had given up by the time the fourth official held up the board for 5 extra minutes.
A team that is looking to re-establish that kind of status is Liverpool. Furthermore, Liverpool have produced similarly inept performances against numerous league’s weaker sides, including Burnley, Hull and Swansea.
The result means the Merseysiders stay fifth and miss out on the chance to move up to third while Leicester leap up to 15th and are now two points clear of the bottom three. “Thank God we don’t play tomorrow so we can analyse and show the boys to react on it again, and make the best of it”. Leicester for how good they were, on the back of how bad they were, just through effort and commitment.
The only problem is they are without a manager after club legend Claudio Ranieri was unceremoniously sacked.
But, with Liverpool in town for the first game of the post-Ranieri era, guess who rolled back the months?
