Gary Neville did not consult with Sir Alex Ferguson over Valencia role
New challenge… Gary Neville has been appointed head coach of Valencia.
Neville will be assisted by his younger brother Phil and former Valencia player Miguel Angel Angulo and will rely on them for help with the language.
Moyes expects Neville – who can not speak Spanish – to adapt to the differences in his first head coaching role, but believes he will be eased into the job due to his experience working with iconic managers.
He will not be involved for the weekend’s league meeting with Barcelona but will take charge for the pivotal Champions League clash with Lyon next week.
Neville says he does not view his new job as a short-term role, even though he has only signed an initial contract until the end of May. Their front page, meanwhile, was emblazoned with the words “Yes we can”.
Neville had been one of the most popular Football pundits, creating some hilarious and insightful moment on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be given this opportunity with Valencia”, Gary Neville said in a statement on www.valenciacf.com. Every coach wants to play attacking entertaining football.
“I’ve been offered managerial jobs in football over the last four or five years, but the timing never felt right”.
Flores, a Valencia supporter, enjoyed 10 years at the Mestalla as a player before taking charge of the club in 2005 and leading them to third in La Liga and a quarter-final spot in the Champions League in the subsequent season.
“Valencia fans are very welcoming and very demanding”, said Valle. “I’ve played against some excellent Valencia players”. “We don’t do niceties and we talk about actions and what we’re going to do”. Also included that, the players are eager and it makes things easy for him when the players are capable and hungry for more wins.
On his brother Phil: “I don’t see any problems. I wanted time to learn”, he said.
“I’m precious what I associate myself with”, said Neville, 40, who has his brother Phil on the coaching staff.
“I have a villa 45, 50, 60 minutes from there and I’ve been to watch them play in their own stadium, and while it’s a pretty old, run-down stadium, the atmosphere is fantastic”. That’s what we try to do as managers.
“I will be taking Spanish lessons every day”.
“I hope that Gary is able to recuperate the harmony between the fans and the club, and that they can improve a lot”.
