Gas Explosion Levels Part of Motel 6 in Washington State, One Hurt
A huge gas leak explosion leveled one part of the Motel 6 in Bremerton Tuesday night, officials said.
The injured man suffered second- and third-degree burns and was airlifted to a Seattle hospital, located across the Puget Sound from Bremerton.
“There are no reports that anyone was inside, but we can’t say with certainty that everyone was evacuated”, Strachan said.
KCPQ reports an apparent gas leak caused the explosion at the Bremerton motel and could be felt miles away, according to witnesses.
Several people said their life’s possessions were in the motel at the time. “The entire house shook”. She said that one guest reported having seen someone jump out a window of the three-story establishment and land on or near the gas line just before the leak.
The motel had been evacuated about a half-hour before the 8:24 p.m. blast because of a reported gas leak. Emergency crews from throughout Kitsap County are responding to the explosion and all nearby streets have been closed to traffic.
