Gas in Massachusetts down to $2 per gallon
The statewide average climbed 2.3 cents to $1.88 per gallon.
That means longer drives over the holiday, with more than 91 million Americans planning to drive 50 miles or more, the auto club said. Gas costs an average of $1.59 a gallon at the cheapest 1% of gas stations.
According to the website GasBuddy, which tracks prices at individual stations, the lowest price was $2.12 at the Speedway/Hess Express at on Columbia Avenue, just east of Columbia.
Nationally, the average price hovers around $2.00 a gallon for gas, and GasBuddy’s Patrick DeHaan says IN falls right IN step. The gas prices are expected to remain low all through next year.
Most travelers said money doesn’t dictate what they decide to do for holiday travel, and only 19 percent said the current gas price will affect their travel plans.
AAA estimates that cheaper gas prices have saved Americans more than $100 billion on gasoline so far this year compared to 2014, which works out to almost $550 per licensed driver in the country.
Gas prices have reduced below $ 2 in more than 30 states and more than two thirds of gas stations in the USA are selling gas at $ 1.99 per gallon or even lower as per GasBuddy. The most common price nationwide is $1.899 per gallon.
Including the change in gas prices in Virginia during the past week, prices yesterday were 46.1 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 8.3 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.
Prices likely will continue to increase until the problems are resolved, Mac said.
During the recession, gas prices fell to these levels because of weak demand for oil and for driving.
The national average gasoline price is expected to tick slightly higher throughout the busiest travel period of the year as GasBuddy has observed prices moving higher in the Great Lakes.
