GasBuddy: Michigan has the lowest gas prices in the country
According to a daily survey of local gas outlets, the price of gas went up 19.7 cents a gallon, to $1.94, on Sunday, GasBuddy said in a statement.
The lowest price reported Monday in Buckhead on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.39, though several stations within city limits had gas at or less than $2. That’s about a dime cents less than last week but nearly a dollar cheaper than it was past year.
John Hess, chief executive officer of Hess Corp., says crude oil prices are going to creep higher because of an ongoing decline in exploration.
According to AAA, a gallon of regular gas in the Rockford area costs $1.95 on average.
The price is 10 cents more than the national average of $2.04 per gallon. The nationwide average is $2.03. DeHaan also said it’s likely the lowered prices won’t last more than 24-48 hours.
On one of the busiest travel days of the year, gasoline prices in Chattanooga fell Sunday to their lowest level in all of 2015 and remained among the lowest in the country.
In fact, DeHaan said, he found average prices in 2001 that are higher than they are now.
Almost two-thirds of the nation’s 130,000 gas stations now are selling regular unleaded for under $2 a gallon, a remarkable change from a year ago, when 0% of stations were under $2.
