Gators Go With Will Grier In SEC Opener
That’s because Jeremi Powell, who was carted to the locker room after being helped off the field during Florida’s 14-9 win over Kentucky, is “probably out” for this week’s game with what Jim McElwain termed a “high foot” injury in his Monday press conference.
The Kentucky Wildcats are coming from a 26-22 win over South Carolina in Week 2. Gators sophomore Treon Harris, meanwhile, has completed 19-of-27 for 269 yards and two scores.
Contrast that to what happens to the crowd if Baker catches the touchdown pass and it’s Kentucky up 7-0.
“Certain passes that are there, we can’t miss them”.
“It’s very big to get him back this week”, Stoops said of Flannigan. “I get it. At the same time, I know our guys are focused on learning from the past and moving forward to go play a really good Kentucky team”. We had great support.
“We have to keep getting better from it and see what we did wrong”. “It didn’t happen”.
So maybe that last item doesn’t fit with the rest, but among Kentucky fans, it’s one they’re familiar with when the annual meeting with Florida arrives.
One half of Florida’s early quarterback platoon, Grier leads the SEC in completion percentage (74.3) through two games. That largely stole Florida’s momentum.
“The guys were into this game and played their hearts out”. We limited big plays. I wasn’t good enough to win the game tonight. “I’m sure [Kentucky] feels like they had that game won a year ago”.
And we can be oh-so-grateful that the Wildcats do not play LSU, Alabama or Mississippi this season.
Considered the heir apparent to 2015 NFL Draft first-round pick Bud Dupree, Hatcher will make his season debut against Florida after serving a two-game suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
It’s probably somewhere in the middle.
The last time the Gators traveled to Lexington two years ago, I was convinced the Wildcats were going to upset the Gators and end their long (now 28 games) losing streak to UF. A lot. It was nearly unfair. While Stoops knows his signal caller can improve he still has faith in Towles.
That’s what makes Towles’ frightful passing performance harder to assess. Grier played decently at times, showing mobility and poise, but his costly interception late in the third quarter kept Kentucky in the game. Coach McElwain didn’t have a timetable for his return, but it is important to note that Anzalone has had shoulder issues in the past.
After three games, I strongly believe Stoops and his staff have Kentucky on the right track.
Senior offensive guard Trip Thurman said he had no problem with McElwain’s sideline explosion.
Defensive lineman Jordan Sherit is “ready to go” and expected to return to Florida’s defensive line rotation after playing only in kicking situations against Kentucky.
