Gau Raksha Dal chief Satish Kumar booked in crackdown on cow vigilantes
A Hindu national organization, Karnataka Gau Raksha Dal, has written a letter to India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on Sunday and proposed his government to impose strict punishment for those indulging in cow slaughter.
The FIR was lodged on the basis of a video clip which appeared on social media, showing Gau Raksha Dal members brutally thrashing people (on the pretext of cow protection), senior superintendent of police (SSP), Patiala, Gurmeet Chauhan said on Monday. “He is doing vote bank politics to get the butchers’ vote”, Kumar said. He also said that if police targets his Punjab Gau Raksha Dal, “my supporters will protest against BJP and the PM”. “I don’t mind if someone calls me a goon for saving the cow”.
A day ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had strongly rebuked cow vigilantes, saying a lot of them are “anti-social” elements who are running “shops” in the name of cow protection.
Various reports in the state media shows that socalled “gau-rakshaks” were running extortion racket. In his remarks, PM Modhi stated that “I feel infuriated at some people who have opened shops in the name of cow protection”.
“The people, who are troubled by the unity of the society, are in the name of “gau rakshaks” attempting to create friction the society”.
Satish Kumar, who looked upset that a case had been lodged against him, challenged police to arrest him. They protect cows to hide their illegal occupations. The notorious Gau Raksha Dal has been posting videos of its attacks on trucks carrying cattle for slaughter.
