‘Gay moment’: Disney pulls Beauty and the Beast in Malaysia after censorship
“Parents should be warned that Disney has given the green light to a strong LGBTQ agenda in a movie that targets the 5- to 11-year-old demographic market”, AFA officials wrote on the “PIlgrim’s Progress” fundraising page. “Surely you knew this musical before you took the job, right?” Colbert asked McGregor. “How could you possibly avoid Disney?”. “How could you possibly avoid Disney?”.
“On TV, you’ll see an advert for insurance and it’s a black woman and a white man or an Asian man and a white woman – never in America do you see this. Is it good?” the Scottish star quipped. “So I was very careful about every decision I made”, he said.
“If we cannot take our 11 year old grand daughter and 8 year old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it”.
She added: “I don’t want people going into this movie thinking that there’s like a huge narrative there”. And “I’m always happy to hear your thoughts and try to answer your questions”.
Leave it to Ewan McGregor to be the voice of reason in response to that Beauty and the Beast controversy over the fact that the character of LeFou has a “gay moment” during the film.
Making him gay just means he has something of a gently suggested crush on Gaston, which makes his character more sympathetic and his loyalty more understandable. “What would Jesus think?” The animated version of “Beauty and the Beast” was a critical and commercial hit, winning two Academy Awards and grossing $425 million worldwide.
“He’s a gay character!” he exclaimed. “It’s 2017 for f-k’s sake”, McGregor exclaimed to Colbert Monday night (March 13). The movie has allegedly received criticism because director, Bill Condon talked about gay moments in it during an interview. “It’s sort of, like, a first gay moment”. “LeFou” is the villain Gaston’s enamored sidekick. “That was the most invigorating thing I’ve ever done”.
