Gay Slurs Have Been Thrown at Odell Beckham Jr. All Season
While they close in on potentially just the third ideal regular season in National Football League history, the Carolina Panthers faced another round of allegations about their purported role in triggering New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s cheap shots and penalties last weekend.
Odell Beckham Jr. will have to serve a 1 game suspension after losing his appeal against.
However, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and current NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin told the New York Daily News’ Gary Myers that Beckham has been subjected to homophobic slurs throughout the season based on conversations the two have had.
Most notable was a play in which Beckham raced across the field to slam his helmet into that of an unsuspecting Norman.
“I owe some people an apology”, said Beckham.
“I am not here to make excuses for my conduct”, he continued. In the passing game, running back Shane Vereen (51 catches) and rookie tight end Will Tye (34) have become frequent Manning targets.
Edwards played just three snaps last Sunday against Green Bay before leaving with the injury.
“First of all, I apologize to the organization I represent, the Giants, and our ownership, John Mara and his family and Steve Tisch and his family”.
Beckham will have to sit out of this Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. It’s not fair. It’s not justice.
“Rueben comes to mind, but Harris has made plays for us in the past”, Coughlin said. “If you’re naive enough to think that way, then you better do some soul-searching yourself”.
Three different Giants players said they heard no slurs being used during pre-game warm ups. I can’t disagree. But Bayless also said that the officiating crew should also be suspended, and boy, do I agree with that. High schools and colleges have been walking out with sledge hammers, bats, judo sticks, you name it, they’ve done it. Though it is “against league rules” to bring foreign objects onto the field in the NFL, league officials have allowed it for years, including this year and in particularly, the Panthers. “He was provoked, he was out of control, he was wrong, no doubt about that but… there are two sides to this, not just one”.
White told Atlanta media on Sunday that he wouldn’t put Norman in the same category as Darrelle Revis, Richard Sherman, Champ Bailey and others. I approve of the actions Norman took. He loves to play and he does not want the sacrifice of a game.
Irvin’s comments come days after Beckham was suspended for one game after his helmet-to-helmet contact with Norman on Sunday. The Giants, at 6-8, will have to win out and get some help if they’re to leapfrog both the Eagles and Redskins and claim the NFC East. “We’ve sat down and talked about things that we needed to as a coach, players, general manager, all those things”, Rivera said. To be honest with you, we’ve got to go play a football game and play well.
