Gaza officials say airstrike kills mother, child
The latest terrorist incident comes amid a wave of violence that has raised concerns over a possible third intifada if tension continue to further escalate. In recent days the attacks by Palestinian assailants have spread to the rest of Israel, while violent protests have erupted in the West Bank and along the Gaza border, where seven Palestinians were killed on Friday. The violence has unnerved a jittery Israel, and prompted the United States on Saturday to issue a fresh call for restraint by all sides.
Sarit Michaeli of the Israeli rights group B’Tselem said there is a risk that Palestinian suspects will simply be shot, even in cases where they could be arrested.
On Friday, for the first time since the current violence began, clashes broke out along the Gaza border.

And in the northern Israeli town of Afula, two people, including one soldier were stabbed and wounded by a Palestinian who was apprehended by passers-by, police said.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, Israeli forces injured 145 other Palestinians by live fire or rubber-coated steel bullets during the protests. The police officer was lightly injured.
Days of violent confrontations between Palestinians and Israelis intensified Sunday with a deadly Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip in retaliation for rocket fire, and a auto bomb directed against an Israeli policeman outside Jerusalem.
Earlier, six Palestinians were shot dead near the border fence with Gaza.
Abbas said he reiterated the need for Israeli authorities to stop giving cover to “settler provocations, carried out under the army’s protection”.
The military says five were detained Saturday and taken for questioning while the others retreated.
The Gaza border has been largely calm since last summer’s war between Israel and the Islamic militant group Hamas, which rules the coastal territory. The rocket was intercepted Saturday night by the Iron Dome missile defense system. No injuries or damage was reported.
Demonstrators marched from Chatelet to the Place de la Republique square in Paris, raising Palestinian flags and singing slogans “Free, Free Palestine”, “Boycott Israel” and “We are all Palestinians”. She said the attacks were likely “nationalistically” motivated. Health officials later confirmed the man had died of his wounds.
Hours later in the same area, a 19-year-old also from Kafr Aqeb stabbed two police officers before himself being shot dead.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says Saturday morning’s attack took place in the central part of the city and police forces killed the attacker. Clashes have been ongoing between Palestinians and Israelis, leading to Israel’s controversial ban of Palestinians from entering Jerusalem.
