Gazprom resumes gas supplies to Ukraine
Russia’s gas giant Gazprom has launched gas supplies to Ukraine, the company’s CEO Alexey Miller said on Monday, as cited by TASS.”Today at 10 am Gazprom launched gas supplies to Ukraine”, he said.
Gazprom halted gas supplies to Ukraine earlier in the year after a breakdown on pricing talks.
Moscow late final month agreed to resume gas provides to Ukraine after reportedly providing Kiev a rebate, ending months of talks overshadowed by the disaster in japanese Ukraine and fears for Europe´s power safety.
In an interview with Natural Gas Europe, Bryza said that the export of Iranian gas to Europe will take a while.
“This is a resumption of cooperation”, Yury Korolchuk, an analyst with the Institute of Energy Strategies in Kiev, told AFP. The Kremlin opted to keep prices for Ukraine unchanged from the second quarter, which included a $40 discount per 1,000 cubic meters purchased.
Almost 75 percent of Turkey’s energy use is derived from outside sources, with Russian Federation alone accounting for one-fifth of Turkey’s energy consumption, more than any other.
“Ukraine has requested maximum supplies volumes – 114 mln cubic meters per day, which is in line with Ukraine’s annual gas offtake of 52 bln cubic meters”, he said.
But these reserves could not be enough if the winter is harsh, they warned.
Moscow and Kyiv have been locked in an acrimonious dispute over the price of natural gas ever since Russian Federation annexed the Crimean peninsula and began its overt material and logistical support of anti-government rebels in eastern Ukraine.
Kiev has been seeking to diversify its supply base away from Russian Federation after Moscow cut gas supplies to Ukraine in 2006 and 2009, interrupting transit to Europe.
