Geeta, the deaf-mute Indian woman living in Pakistan after accidentally crossing the border over a decade ago, has expressed desire to meet Bollywood superstar Salman Khan with family on her return to the country.
The girl for the first time talked to her family on Saturday, through a video link.
Faisal Edhi, son of renowned philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi, said that Geeta has denied that she was married.
“The Indian high commissioner has lately sent a family photo to us and Geeta has recognised the family”, Anwer Kazmi, a senior official at the foundation, told reporters. “She is also keen to return to India”. Unable to explain who she was or where she had come from, the Rangers had given her into the care of Edhi Foundation in Lahore. She was believed to have strayed into Pakistani territory by mistake, but could not remember or explain exactly where she was from.
They came to know about the travails of Geeta/Heera from the father, added the SDO saying now everything depends on the governments’ of Pakistan and India as well as subject to DNA tests of the father Jainandan Mahato and Geeta/Heera.
“A lot of debate ensued on Geeta’s citizenship status and we decided that for anyone to enter India, one needs to have supporting travel documents like a passport”. Following new revelations, Geeta’s story has become complicated which may somehow jeopardize her early return to India.
