Geeta set to bid farewell to Pakistan October 25, 9:34 pm
The Mahto family is not hers, Swaraj said, adding that “still the authorities will do DNA test”. Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit would host her and members of the Edhi family on Monday evening. He is popularly known as Pakistan’s “Father Teresa”. She said that Geeta was never forced to convert her religion.
A DNA test will be done to establish conclusively her relationship with the family Geeta has identified.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Geeta coming home.
Geeta will fly to Delhi, where she hopes to be reunited with her loved ones. She is accompanied from Karachi by the Edhi family, who run a charitable foundation and looked after her all these years. “These samples will be sent to the AIIMS Forensic lab and Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for carrying out necessary tests to determine her parentage”, said Dr Sudhir Gupta, Head of AIIMS Forensics Division.
“I am very very grateful to you (Bilquis Edhi) for taking care of Geeta in Karachi”.
Geeta, now 23, was received at the airport by officials from the external affairs ministry and senior Pakistani diplomats.
“It’s a message of love and affection between the two countries and has nothing to do with the movie”, he said.
The woman apparently entered the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore on a train from India nearly 15 years ago.
Fahad Edhi of the Edhi Foundation told PTI today that Geeta would leave by a PIA flight on Monday morning for New Delhi.
He added that he was extremely happy now that Geeta would be returning soon. The family lives in Bihar.
