Gemany’s Schweinsteiger to join United, Bayern CEO says
Bastian Schweinsteiger is “flattered” by the interest of Manchester United, according to Bayern Munich chairman Karl/Heinz Rummenigge, with Germany’s captain pondering a move to England.
Schweinsteiger has already played under Van Gaal during the Dutchman’s stint at Bayern Munich and his relationship with the Manchester United manager is said to be one of the key reasons why the German worldwide wants to link up with the English giants.
United then confirmed the deal on their website, saying that the move would be officially completed once personal terms had been agreed and a medical completed.
It remains to be seen how Van Gaal integrates more new players into his team, an area in which he was quite shaky last season which hindered United’s performance on many occasions. We will meet each other, when he is back.
But the midfielder has spent his entire career at Bayern and he was recently warned by Franz Beckenbauer that it would be hard for a player of his age to move to a new league. With Bastian it was a special situation because he was so long at the club.
Bastian Schweinsteiger was keen on moving away from Bayern Munich after the emergence of Thiago Alcantara whom he feared would take his position within the starting eleven come the start of next season. They’ve gone some way to making that challenge a reality with the signing of highly-rated forward Memphis Depay, and the addition of World Cup victor Schweinsteiger will add some serious mettle to the midfield.
Manchester’s coach Louis van Gaal, once coach of Schweinsteiger at FC Bayern, had previously expressed at a press conference not to currency speculation to the captain of the national team.
Schweinsteiger has just one season left on his current deal with Bayern and United have been alerted to his potential availability in a deal that could be worth around £15million.
