Gender equality is against Islam: Kanthapuram
Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliar, who is chief of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama, said that women did not have the mental strength and the power to control the universe, which he said “lies in the hands of men”. Dr PA Fazal Gafoor, president of Muslim Educational Society said that there is gender equality in Islam. Maulana Khalid Rasheed added that it is only natural for woman to be gifted to deliver children and “cannot be hence termed as a machine for delivering children”.
He also wondered how many women are there among thousands of cardiac surgeons, citing it as something of an “evidence” of women’s incompetence.
“Islam is actually for gender equality because if you look at the history of Islam, it has given equal rights and responsibilities to both men and women”.
Musliyar questioned the courage of women, saying that they could not handle crisis situations.
Referring to the allegation of a Muslim woman journalist that children used to be sexually abused at madrasas, the Sunni leader said the allegation was baseless.
He supported Kozhikode Farook College in its decision to have boys and girls sit separately in classrooms and in the canteen, dismissing debate of that stance as “part of a calculated move to destroy Islam and culture”. “In property, marriage, and inheritance, women share equal rights as of men”, Mr. Mahali said.
