Geo News anchors don APS uniforms to pay tribute to martyrs
Pakistan’s leader called on Wednesday for vengeance under portraits of children killed by Taleban bullets as the country marked the first anniversary of a school massacre that left 151 people dead in its worst-ever extremist attack.
At roughly 10:30 AM, December 16, 2014, seven foreign-fighters associated with the Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP) disguised in uniforms of the Pakistani Frontier Corps entered the back of the Army Public School in Peshawar having scaled the walls of a nearby cemetery.
Pakistan on December 2 executed four terrorists, at a prison in the city of Kohat, who were involved in the Army Public School attack. The song begins with a child asserting that he wants to take revenge on the terrorists who killed 130 children in Peshawar’s Army Public School a year ago. “Why did the state fail to protect my child?” said one man who would only identify himself as the father of Hamid Ali Khan who was killed in the attack.
Today, public holiday has been declared in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
According to rights activists, the number of executions carried out since the six-year moratorium was lifted is around 310.
Asad Umar of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said the nation should learn a lesson from the past so that such incidents were not repeated in future.
“Operation Zarb-e-Azb got a boost after this attack”.
“It was the third lesson of the day, and an army doctor was giving a lecture on first aid in the school auditorium”.
He paid tributes to the armed forces for waging a campaign against terrorism under the leadership of army chief General Raheel.
Jibran Nasir, a lawyer and activist, led unprecedented protests outside Islamabad’s notorious Red Mosque following the school massacre to demand authorities arrest Abdul Aziz, the mullah who attempted to introduce Taliban-style moral policing in the capital in 2007.
But the trauma lingers for many, with parents of the slain children saying they are still seeking answers about how the security apparatus could have failed them so completely. While the Army chief honoured the relatives of the martyred teachers and other staff of the APS with medals and commendatory certificates, all five Chief Minister, the Chief Minister Azad Kashmir and Governor KP and later the Prime Minister gave medals and commendatory certificates to the parents of the martyred students.
They all gathered in the Raphel Memorial Gardens at the Embassy to pay homage to the victims of terrorists.
