George Miller Clarifies His Plans For More Mad Max Movies, Again
As previously reported, the director told Deadline that he can’t necessarily confirm anything about the movie at this early stage in its development, including its working title, “Mad Max: Wasteland”, other than to say that the film will take awhile to hit theaters.
“That was a completely garbled interview”, Miller says.
He continued: “She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true”. I said no, [another Mad Max] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another Mad Max.
“Mad Max: Fury Road”, was one of 2015’s biggest movies because of its compelling story and thrilling action sequences.
It didn’t stop the 70-year-old from taking a mostly Australian crew to Africa for the arduous shoot on what was the fourth chapter of his Mad Max franchise.
The Wrap had a chance to speak with Miller about the Oscar nominations (10!) for Fury Road and to clear the air regarding that freaky Page Six report. “I won’t do those anymore”, but the rest of his statements were about the difficulty of shooting a blockbuster, so he was probably just saying that he needed a break. For now, it’s refreshing to see that the extraordinary actresses who chose to play these characters-and the writers, directors, and studios that made these movies happen-won’t have to worry as much about whether their stories will be deemed important enough to compete for Best Picture. There are so many other directors out there.
Fury Road cinematographer John Seale, editor Margaret Sixel, production designers Colin Gibson and Lisa Thompson, sound mixer Ben Osmo, sound editor David White and makeup-hairstylists Damian Martin and Elka Wardega also picked up nominations.
“Even the cats are up running around so we might have a cup of tea and then get back to bed”, laughed Miller around 2am today, when asked about his plans for the rest of the night.
