George Miller still has plans for more Mad Max movies
Cinematography: “Carol”, “The Hateful Eight”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “The Revenant”, “Sicario”.
Mad Max: Fury Road was also partly shot at Fox Studios in Sydney and some other locations in the harbour city.
In a year when fellow summer blockbusters “Jurassic World”, “Furious 7”, and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” made more money, “Fury Road” is that rare summer release that grabbed the attention of both fans and the fickle Academy voters.
“The Revenant” leads the way with 12 nominations. Where his loyalties lie will no doubt supply Hollywood with enough fodder to keep their awards season appetite in check until the Academy Awards air February 28 on ABC at 8:30 p.m., with Chris Rock as the host.
The comments sounded odd, given that Miller has been talking about two sequels to last year’s Mad Max: Fury Road even before the release of the film, and only this week revealed that he is interested in further exploring the character Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road.
A best movie win from the National Board of Review in December began the momentum to an Oscar nomination, with BAFTA, SAG, and Golden Globes nominations following.
The Best Actress contenders include Cate Blanchett (“Carol“), Brie Larson (“Room”), Saoirse Ronan (“Brooklyn”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Joy“), and Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years“). He could make it two Best Actor awards for his performance in The Danish Girl, but he will contend with Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant; Bryan Cranston, Trumbo; Matt Damon, The Martian; and Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs.
Jennifer Jason Leigh, The Hateful Eight; Rooney Mara, Carol; Rachel McAdams, Spotlight; Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl; and Kate Winslet, Steve Jobs.
The Big Short received five nominations, including best motion picture and best actor for Christian Bale.
Competing in the Directing categories are: George Miller (“Mad Max: Fury Road”), Lenny Abrahamson (“Room“), Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight”), Adam McKay (“The Big Short), and last year’s victor Alejandro G. Iñárritu (“The Revnant”)”.
