GEORGE O’GORMAN: Giants need time to regroup after gut-wrenching loss
“That’s what we’ve always talked about – the most direct line to where you want to go is right through the division”.
Beckham couldn’t secure a potential game-winning touchdown catch late against the Patriots.
“This is tough, this is tough”, veteran defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins said. “But I think it’s again the question of eliminating those things that are not allowing us to go forward”. Additionally, the Patriots are arguably the best in the league at turning bench players into valuable role players, so over the next seven weeks, someone we never saw coming could become a huge part of the Patriots’ offense.
In the last two minutes, the Giants had three chances to put the game away. Eli Manning threw for 361 yards and two scores – one via Odell Beckham Jr., who accounted for 104 of those yards.
I realize most people will say that I am drawing attention to this game because the Pats won.
A six-week recovery would put Edelman on pace to play in either Week 16 against the NY Jets or 17 against the Miami Dolphins. The flight took off during the Giants-Patriots game, so passengers were forced to watch the end of the game on the television connected to the back of their seat.
Brady was hit throwing the ball and it rainbowed down the middle of the field to a waiting Landon Collins. He is averaging 86.3 yards per game and has 271 yards after the catch. “You’ve got to make the play yourself and it was just a case of playing the play longer than the opponent”.
Gostkowski, the NFL’s leading scorer the last three seasons, sent his winning kick soaring through the uprights. “We have a lot of work to do and many, many opportunities out there”.
The kick soared through, leaving just a second for the Giants to ill-fatedly return a squib kick.
Kicker Stephen Gostkowski hit a 54-yard field goal to give his team a two point edge, 26-24, with one second remaining in the contest.
They were the longest catches for both Beckham and Rob Gronkowski.
The Patriots marched downfield with the opening kickoff on a 14-play, 80-yard drive. The drive ended with Tom Brady finding tight end Scott Chandler in the back of the end zone for a touchdown. That, of course, starts with Brady, who continues to play out of this world. Hopefully their bye week works to reset the focus of the team so they’re able to take on the Redskins strong, and maintain their first place position within the NFC East, and keep their playoff dreams alive.
Manning found Beckham between Butler and Devin McCourty on an 87-yard catch and run for a touchdown on the Giants second play from scrimmage. This time Manning wisely went down, because the Patriots had this play scouted and on lockdown.
We’ve seen Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton play great all season, and he was not good on Monday night. Your matchups are very good under those circumstances one-on-one.
But the Pats got a new lease on life.
