George W. Bush says he does not like Ted Cruz
Donald Trump says he’s not blaming George W Bush for 9/11, but he claims that if he’d been president, the attacks never would have happened.
Noah was discussing the back-and-forth that has been occurring between Jeb Bush and Trump over whether or not George Bush kept the country safe in his term.
Criticizing the front-runner, Bush insisted Trump “has been ignorant and dismissive of the world’s riskiest terrorist organizations, saying that we shouldn’t have gone into Afghanistan to hunt al-Qaeda and end the safe haven for terror provided by the Taliban, only to retreat from that stance this week”. We can’t just keep electing the same people with the same ideas. “It was one of the greatest – probably the greatest catastrophe ever in this country if you think about it, right?”
“The simple fact is that when we were attacked, my brother created an environment where, for 2,600 days, we were safe”, Bush said Monday night on Fox News. Trump said he had to speak out after his primary opponent Jeb Bush said his brother kept the country safe as president.
Responding to Mr Trump’s comments, Jeb Bush said in a CNN interview: “Does anyone actually blameы my brother for the attacks on 9/11?” “And there’s no denying that”.
Jeb pointed to what he believes to be major differences between Benghazi and 9/11.
Trump added that his own tough stance on illegal immigration would have made it hard for the attacks to be carried out in the first place. Jeb Bush fumbled answers to questions about his brother’s decision to invade Iraq in 2003 for an entire week in May, struggling to explain whether he would have done the same.
Trump even suggested that CIA Director George Tenet “knew in advance that there was going to be an attack”, despite intelligence reports showing that he didn’t know when or how those attacks would unfold, or how reliable the information was.
“There were calls for security; it looks like they didn’t get it”, Bush answered. “Across the spectrum of foreign policy, Trump talks about things as though he’s still on The Apprentice”.
Forget it, Jeb, no one is buying your baloney. Your brother had been president for 9 months when we were attacked on 9/11 and there is simply no denying that.
