Georgia Bulldogs Want to be Like Alabama & Florida
Richt spent a very successful 15 years at the helm of Georgia.
Fulmer was sacked after his team suffered through a 5-7 season, while Georgia was able to finish 9-3 before the carpet was pulled out from under Coach Richt’s feet.
If the Colts want to make a bold move this offseason that could pay off in a big way for them, hiring Richt could be the big step forward that they need to make.
He had long said that he hoped to retire in Athens, and there was talk of him remaining at Georgia in an off-field capacity, but Monday morning he sounded like he was excited about future possibilities elsewhere.
“I appreciate the opportunity of serving the University as well as considering any other options that may present themselves in the future”.
Georgia administrators earlier considered firing Mark Richt after last season after it loss to Florida along with a home loss to Georgia Tech. Dan Mullen of Mississippi State was also floated along with Tom Herman of Houston, as possible replacements for Mark Richt.
Like I said, whoever goes there, it’s not going to hurt how I look at Georgia. “From that point of view, we fell short of our goals”.
Richt has a 145-51 record with UGA. “You chose Georgia for a reason, and it was more than just me or (offensive coordinator Brian) Schottenheimer”. “For those contributions, we are sincerely appreciative”. LSU have a national championship with Les Miles and another visit to the BCS national championship game.
In the past 10 years, the Bulldogs have only made it to Atlanta for the SEC championship game twice.
The second all-time winningest football coach in the University of Georgia history stepped down Sunday and held a news conference Monday to address it. Whether or not that happens, the Bulldogs’ change could affect the Gamecocks by lessening South Carolina’s chances of landing Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. If Georgia isn’t being investigated for violating major NCAA rules, then the right coach has not been hired.
Rutgers: The school fired coach Kyle Flood and athletic director Julie Hermann.
It may sound like I’m making excuses for a guy that was making almost four million dollars a year.
Richt said he and his wife were “going to be fine” in the news conference.
A person briefed on the decision told The Associated Press that Toledo coach Matt Campbell will be Iowa State’s new football coach.
Alabama coach Nick Saban reacted to the news with shock. At Iowa State, Campbell will replace Paul Rhoads.
Campbell is now the youngest coach at a Power Five school.
“Days like yesterday are hard are the most hard days in our profession, especially when you’re dealing with someone with the character of Mark Richt”, McGarity said.
If he wants to get back into coaching immediately, he will have opportunities. President Robert Barchi announced that Patrick Hobbs, dean emeritus of the Seton Hall School of Law, will take over for Hermann.
