Georgia officer fatally shot, suspect remains on the loose
Tim Smith, 31, was investigating a “suspicious person” call about 9:30 p.m.at the intersection of Smith and Main streets, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton said in a news release.
An Eastman (GA) police officer was shot and killed while responding to a call Saturday night.
GBI Special Agent Scott Whitley said to WMAZ that Smith and the gunman had a conversation outside of Smith’s patrol vehicle before he was shot.
A suspect who shot and killed a Georgia police officer as he exited his auto Saturday is still at large.
Officials were trying to identify a suspect, who was still at large early Sunday. Officer Smith returned fire, and the person involved in the shooting ran from the area.
Whitley told CBS that the unidentified gunman is being sought. Lewis Smith is also an officer at the Glenwood Police Department in Wheeler County.
Smith arrived at the area and encountered an individual, the statement said.
According to Smith’s Facebook page, he is a father of two children.
A police officer in a town just north of Atlanta was also shot Sunday morning responding to a call. Both suspects, who are juveniles, were eventually arrested. The man stabbed the officer in the face before another officer shot the suspect once in the abdomen, police said. The wounded suspect was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Officer Scott Davis – and two other officers – exchanged gunfire with two 15-year-olds around 4.24 am local time, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported.
