MARIETTA, Ga. – Police radio calls released Thursday provide a glimpse of the high-speed chase on a busy interstate that ended with the driver of a pickup truck in a shootout with state troopers.
Channel 2’s Jason Durden said for drivers to use U.S. Highway 41 to get around the backup on I-75.
Mark Perry of the Georgia Department of Public safety identified the trooper as Jacob Fields, who was shot twice, once in the stomach underneath his bulletproof vest and once in the ankle.
All three troopers who exchanged fire with Rodriguez were placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, standard procedure in such cases.

The suspect also is being treated at Kennestone. He is in stable condition at a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
“This gentleman is the one who chose to flee”, Perry said of the suspect.
Both Fields and the suspect were alive after the shooting as of Wednesday night.
“They were instrumental in rendering some medical attention to the trooper as well as the suspect”, Perry said. Rodriguez died from his injuries at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, the GBI spokesperson said.
There is no estimate as to when normal traffic flow will resume.
All lanes on I-75 southbound just north were blocked just north of Delk Road immediately after the incident, as were many lanes of I-75 north. Some lanes were open as of 6:30 p.m., but Perry said investigators will be on the scene for some time, so drivers are advised to steer clear of the area.
“At that point”, Perry said, the driver of the Silverado “comes out of the vehicle, he has a weapon, shots are exchanged”. Authorities said suspect 26-year-old Israel Vladimir Rodriguez of Acworth was shot and later died. Other troopers helped Fields attempt a box-in maneuver to try to stop the suspect.
A state trooper and a suspect were shot Wednesday afternoon after a police chase in suburban Atlanta, the Georgia State Patrol said. Before they could complete that, the Silverado hit another civilian vehicle and came to a stop, Perry said.
