Geraldo on Helsinki Fallout: ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome Is a Real Thing’
The Kremlin has the final say, but hasn’t responded yet to the proposal Trump made Thursday.
Moscow is open to a possible visit by Vladimir Putin to Washington after a surprise invitation from Donald Trump, Russia’s USA envoy has said.
Speaking to CBS News on Wednesday, Mr Trump said he held Mr Putin personally responsible for interfering in the election, and that he was “very strong on the fact that we can’t have meddling”.
The Russian president spoke about the proposal at a behind-closed-doors meeting with ambassadors and diplomats at the foreign ministry in Moscow on Thursday, Bloomberg reported, citing two people who attended the meeting.
The Department of Defense also announced on Friday that it would be providing $200 million in security assistance to Ukraine.
On Thursday, Sanders said in a statement that Trump disagreed with the proposal.
Democrats in Congress demanded this week that Marina Gross, the translator in the room with President Trump and President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland on Monday, come to Washington and tell them what was discussed in the closed-door meeting.
“He does believe that they [Russia] would target U.S. elections again”. Limited details have emerged, but Antonov said discussions included ways to cooperate on arms control and Iran’s nuclear activities.
“What do you think I’ll tell you?”
A spokesman for the National Security Council said: “Presidents Trump and Putin discussed a wide range of national security issues in Helsinki”.
This was during Putin’s first term as president and then US President Bush said of the meeting: “This is a new day in the long history of Russian-American relations, a day of progress and a day of hope”.
The law outraged Putin, who barred American adoptions of Russian children as retaliation.
When MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell said the White House had tweeted the announcement, the clearly surprised Coats said: “Say that again?”
The illustration by artist Nancy Burson shows Mr Trump morphing into Russian President Vladimir Putin. He did not elaborate on what Putin’s solutions would be.
Trump is planning to host Putin for talks in Washington later this year, after a first bilateral meeting in Helsinki on Monday.
“There are many answers, some easy and some hard, to these problems. but they can ALL be solved!”
He also said that it is important to “deal with the results” of the two men’s summit in Helsinki this week before moving ahead too fast with another meeting. In a story explaining the cover, the editors said the merged image represents the conflict between the question of alleged collusion with Russian Federation and the question of whether Russian Federation attempted to influence the 2016 presidential election. “We discussed lots of great things for both countries, frankly”.
“Look at the statement he made”, Trump said.
After changing tack from the summit and saying he blamed Putin for Russian interference in the 2016 election, he said he would be Russia’s “worst enemy” if their relationship “did not work out”.
Trump initially had described the idea as an “incredible offer”.
