German hotshot joins Burnley
Burnley boss Sean Dyche is looking to add to his strikeforce before the close of the transfer window having lost Danny Ings to Liverpool and Ashley Barnes to long-term injury.
Dyche maintained over the last two seasons that the club was investing time and resources into spreading their scouting net. “The latest is we’re in the market to bring players in”.
“If the right ones become available then we will add to our striking options no matter how many we’ve got”.
Last month our Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday had an offer for him rejected but the Clarets have been successful with Hennings now a Burnley player.
Ashley Barnes is an Austria Under-20 global, after qualifying through his paternal grandmother, while Lukas Jutkiewicz would qualify for the Republic of Ireland and Poland – also through his grandparents – but both were born in England.
Birmingham City, on the other hand, started the season in fine form as goals from David Cotterill and Jon Toral secured a 2-1 home success over Reading.
Hennings was the top scorer in the second tier of German football last year, notching 18 times in 29 games, but needs worldwide clearance before he can make his Clarets bow.
“Some of the players we’ve been in for, I’ve been stunned by the amount of money asked for, so we still shop accordingly to the good values that the club have with the idea of the finance of the club”.
“I met the manager earlier today and he talked me through his plans”.
Following relegation from the Premier League last campaign, Burnley drew their opening game of the new season and will hope to get a first win on the board back at Turf Moor.
A loan back to VfL Osnabrück brought a further five goals in 17 games, but his strikerate at Karlsruhe has been the best of his career, 37 in 95 appearances.
Meanwhile, Burnley’s bid to sign Henri Lansury from Nottingham Forest remains ongoing, with Forest determined to sign a replacement before allowing their captain to leave.
