Germany orders United Airlines flight to San Francisco back over bomb threat
United Airlines Flight 902 returned safely to Frankfurt Airport at 3:39 p.m., shortly after the plane had taken off, United spokesman Luke Punzenberger said.
Altenhofen said Friday’s flight was cancelled by the airline and has been rescheduled for Saturday. However, after a thorough search of the plane, its passengers and their belongings, authorities detained nobody.
“It was a very specific threat and you have to keep in mind the date”, he said, referring to the 14th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks.
A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of a plane heading from Frankfurt, Germany to San Francisco on Friday, a law enforcement source tells CBS.
The plane had reportedly been flying for about 10 minutes when it turned around and returned to Frankfurt global Airport without any explanation from the flight crew, a passenger with the handle @demed tweeted Friday. According to United’s website, the Daily Mail reported that the flight was cancelled because of a disruption in security.
Photos posted on Twitter that appear to be taken from the Frankfurt tarmac show several emergency responders helping passengers deplane. “Our customer service team in Frankfurt is providing assistance to customers and is making arrangements for them to complete their journeys”.
