Sinn Féin has vehemently denied the IRA was involved in the Belfast murder last week of father-of-nine Kevin McGuigan.
“There could be no question of devolution continuing”, said Mr Campbell, after Detective Superintendent Kevin Geddes, who is in overall charge of the investigation into the Short Strand man’s murder was carried out by an alliance of criminals, dissident republicans and former Provos styling itself Action Against Drugs (AAD).
Meanwhile, thebody representing rank and file members of the Police Service of Northern Ireland(PSNI) has said they hold “great and justifiable concern” about the suspected Provisional IRA link to the murder.
A 60-year-old man arrested on Friday in connection with the murder was later released.
The incident could have implications for the Northern Assembly, with the DUP saying it will hold talks with the other parties about excluding Sinn Féin from the power-sharing executive.
Kevin McGuigan who was shot dead outside his home on Wednesday night in front of his wife at Comber Court in east Belfast. It is a mix of criminals and former republicans who have engaged in intimidation and violence in pursuit of their criminal ends. Anyone with any information on this brutal murder should bring it forward to the PSNI.
Mr Campbell and his party are to meet the Secretary of state Theresa Villiers to discuss the matter.
Police believe that senior IRA members had conducted an enquiry into the death of Gerard “Jock” Davison, gunned down in May, and identified McGuigan as the likely killer.
Superintendent Mark McEwan said: “I would ask the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or activity to local police immediately”.
