Ghulam Ali accepts Delhi Govt’s invite to perform in the city
Mr. Mishra had invited the singer to perform in Delhi on Thursday after a concert in which he was expected to perform in at Mumbai was cancelled following threats from the Shiv Sena.
After meeting the famous ghazal singer in Delhi, Kejriwal took to Twitter to announce that Ghulam Ali has agreed to perform in Delhi in December.
Apart from this, personalities like Shabana Azmi, Wendell Rodricks and Mahesh Bhatt are not quite happy with the ban on the performance of Ghulam Ali. Times of India quoted Ali as saying: “I am so thankful to the CM for extending such a warm welcome”.
Anwar further condemned singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya for supporting the ban of Ghulam Ali from performing in Mumbai, saying these kinds of people should not be given much importance.
“The programme was important for me as it marked Jagjit’s death anniversary”. He was like a brother to me.
Criticising those who have attacked the party for forcing cancellation of Ghulam Ali’s concert here, the Sena said, “Those who say that politics should not be mixed with sports and culture are belittling the patriotic feelings”. He said he wants to spread love with his songs and his admiration for India remains undiminished. Music is the rhythm of the heart. It is very clear that the Union government is helpless.
Pakistan’s envoy to India, Abdul Basit, registered disappointment over the cancellations in a statement issued late Wednesday, noting that “Indian artists when they go to Pakistan, they do not face such opposition”.
