Ghulam Ali’s concert in India cancelled again amid Shiv Sena protests
Renowned Ghazal singer Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai which was scheduled to be held on January 29 has been cancelled. The film, directed by former India’s Most Wanted host Suhaib Ilyasi, marks Ghulam Ali’s acting debut and he has also sung an Indian patriotic song for it. “I will request the Mumbai police and the Maharashtra government to provide protection to Ghulam Ali saab during his stay in Mumbai”.
In October 2014, his concerts (in Mumbai and Pune) were cancelled due to a threat by the Shiv Sena.
Delhi is likely to be the new venue, it has been learnt.
Mumbai: Shiv Sena once again allegedly targeted Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali and ensured his event in the city gets cancelled. But Ilyasi said he had gone to the venue personally to make the booking. “Prime Minister Modi had taken a initiative to improve relations with Pakistan and it is sad that Ghulam Ali’s sahibs program had to cancelled in a BJP ruled state”, Ilyasi told ANI. “But he picked up gradually”, Ilyasi said. However, a Shiv Sena leader said everyone was aware regarding their stance for Pakistani artists and said they had not threatened anyone.
Ali was invited by Mr. Illyasi to release the music of his film at The Club in Andheri.
Fearing hooliganism from Sena, Ilyasi had also sought police protection for event organizers and participators from Mumbai Police and Maharashtra government. The reason they gave was the tension prevailing between India and Pakistan, he added. We will proceed only if we have the conformation, until then everything is on stand by.
Ilyasi said his upcoming film will be about the issue of intolerance in the country.
