Giant megalodon shark teeth wash up on USA beach
A beachgoer in North Carolina recently came across what turned out to be the giant fossilized teeth-about six inches in length-of the prehistoric Megalodon shark.
The teeth are enormous and immensely old: Researchers say the teeth once belonged to a Megalodon, the largest shark ever to live.
The experts from the museum said that the sizes of sharks today are determined by comparing their teeth with their body size.
“Oh my god, like I said, I felt like I was a lottery victor of something”, Denny Blend, who found one of the massive fossilised teeth on a beach in North Carolina, told a local news station. The largest ever found was more than seven inches long. Now, instead of looking for small ones, I will start looking for the big ones.
Although recent change in climate has easily brought a few marine life ashore recently, it is known that North Topsail Beach in North Carolina is the best spot to find relics from extinct marine life like the megalodon. They have unearthed fossilized shark teeth a few as big as an adult hand. And, apparently, this particular species of ancient shark could reach astounding and terrifying sizes of 60 feet. However, similar to the famous dinosaur, the ancient shark also faded away from existence with time. Given its habitat and size that likely placed it on top of the marine food chain, it’s a mystery how its extinction came to be.
