Giant red ball gets loose, rolls around downtown Toledo
Jeremy Falke filmed the ball rolling down the Toledo street on Wednesday before it came to a halt on a path. We’re just glad no one was hurt. “The wind picked up, and it popped up and just started going”.
Kurt Perschke, the artist behind the red ball project has been traveling the world for 15 years placing this ball in alleys and anywhere it will fit. Fires ignited, panic ruled the streets and riots tore about this once quiet town and shook it to its very core!
The ball was chased down the street by its “minders” as well as museum staff and a nearby restaurant waiter.
The ball was stationed at Roulet Jewelers on Madison Avenue, having already spent time at various locations around the city, including at the Toledo Museum, which organized the project, and a farmer’s market.
“The guy whose vehicle it rolled over had a laugh about it. He’s a fan of the project, and it didn’t damage anything except the sign it hit”, he said.
They were eventually able to catch the 4.5m ball and deflate it.
He said it was a mishap and plans to keep the ball in place.
