Giants and Brandon Crawford agree to $75M, 6-year deal
When Brandon Crawford’s agent called him to say his new deal with the San Francisco Giants had been completed, the shortstop was in the middle of a workout in the AT&T Park weight room. If you’re Brandon Crawford, the answer is $75 million, according to multiple reports. That’s where San Francisco general manager Bobby Evans came to congratulate his player on a contract that keeps him here for another six years.
The Giants and Crawford handled an expected bit of business Tuesday, agreeing to terms on a six-year, $75 million contract that will span the 28-year-old’s final two arbitration seasons as well as four years of free agency.
The Giants lauded that work ethic while introducing Crawford in a news conference on Wednesday that felt more like an organization-wide celebration. After that, he will earn $15 million each season for four years from 2018-2021.
Crawford just wrapped up the best season of his career, where he had a.256/.321/462 slash line with career highs of 21 home runs and 84 RBIs. He also said it is a good day for Crawford, his family, the Giants, and the fans. The Giants should be thankful to have signed Crawford, who seems to be entering his prime at 28, for under $100 million dollars. Crawford was a key member of the Giants” 2012 and “14 World Series-winning clubs.
“The success of our franchise depends on developing and retaining homegrown talent like Brandon Crawford”, Giants President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Baer said. All three awards – the All-Star nod, Gold Glove, and Silver Slugger – were firsts for Crawford, who broke into the league in 2011 and has been a full-time player since 2012.
He already received high accolades in recent days, becoming the first Giant to win a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in the same season since Barry Bonds in 1997.
