Giants coach Tom Coughlin won’t return in 2016
The 69-year-old handed in his resignation today, after the final game of the season for the team ended in a 35-30 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving them with a 6-10 record this year.
“I appreciate the support of John and his family and Steve and his family, and of Jerry Reese and his staff”, Coughlin said.
Team president and CEO John Mara expressed his faith in increasingly-embattled general manager Jerry Reese during his State of the Giants address on Tuesday morning. Having joined the GM role in 2007, he has contributed to two super bowl titles with the Giants.
“I think he’s done a great job, and he definitely has not failed”, Manning said.
Coughlin admitted that the last three seasons did not go the way he wanted for the Giants, but he is proud that while he was head coach the team earned two Lombardi Trophies.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Tom Coughlin didn’t fade away in his goodbye to the New York Giants. “I think back to when I was named captain and I used to try and beat you to the facility”. He’s a passionate man, and he hasn’t lost any of that desire to win after 12 seasons leading the Giants.
“He (McAdoo) knows what the expectations are here”, said Mara, who added if McAdoo is not the choice he would be given consideration to stay on with a new coach.
One of the bigger jobs in the National Football League opened up Monday when Giants coach Tom Coughlin stepped down.
With several Giants players in attendance, Coughlin thanked his wife, Judy, the fans, ownership and fellow coaches he built relationships over the last 12 seasons. I’m better for it. I’m better for the experiences that I’ve had.
“I have been the head coach at two Super Bowl press conferences”. “They follow that up by saying they’ve become better men, better husbands, better fathers, better friends due to their experience having been a New York Giant”.
Manning got choked up on Monday as he explained to reporters at his locker how he felt the team had let Coughlin down by not having a more successful season. “The GM/coach relationship is of the utmost importance in this business, and I’m grateful for the relationship we had”. “We say ‘next time.’ I’m trying to convey that here”.
