Giants finally get some offense in 10-7 win over Mets
San Francisco as mentioned will be out to continue their even year trend of winning World Series titles as they were crowned in 2010, 2012, and 2014 and stand a great chance to at least get back to the World Series this season as they are just as risky as the Cubs, Dodgers, and Nationals.
The Mets have had a very tough go of things since the all-star break and have gone from being a serious contender to win the World Series to running the risk of missing the playoffs entirely as they haven’t looked great against some very modest opposition. Yet after Ruggiano’s grand slam against Bumgarner in the fourth staked the Mets to a 4-0 lead, San Francisco answered with five runs in the bottom of the frame, capped by Bumgarner’s two-run homer against deGrom.
Pinch-hitter Ehire Adrianza broke a tie with a run-scoring single in a two-run seventh inning, helping Johnny Cueto wins his 14th game in the Giants’ 8-1 victory over the Mets. It was Bumgarner’s third home run this season and the 14th of his career.
Ruggiano will give the Mets a right-handed hitting center fielder who will start against southpaws, filling the role previously held by Juan Lagares, who underwent surgery to fix a partially torn ligament in his left thumb and will likely be out until mid-September. Joe Panik followed with a two run double, giving the Giants an 8-4 lead. He struck out two and walked one.
NY scored three times in the sixth to pull to 8-7 then loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh before Derek Law got Ty Kelly to ground out. Two runs scored when the next batter, Eduardo Nunez, tripled to clear the bases, but the score was 4-3 with the Mets still leading. Hansel Robles continued his recent struggles, walking two men with one out. Santiago Casilla worked the ninth for his 28th save.
San Francisco has scored 18 runs with 32 hits in the last two days against the Mets.
NEW YORK: The Mets are 1-4 in their last five games overall, are 1-7 in their last eight games versus a left-handed starter, and are 0-5 in Colon’s last five starts versus National League West opponents.
Before the game, NY activated Yoenis Cespedes and Asdrubal Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list with the hopes they could provide a boost for the Mets’ slumping offense. Both runs were charged to Hansel Robles, who has allowed 11 runs in his last seven appearances spanning 10 innings. Mets manager Terry Collins disclosed before the game that he’s planning to activate LF Yoenis Cespedes (strained right quad) and SS Asdrubal Cabrera (strained left knee) from the DL on Friday. T.J. Rivera singled, and then Wilmer Flores and Travis d’Arnaud just wouldn’t swing at what Bumgarner was offering.
