Giants hire Ben McAdoo to replace Coughlin
Philbin is expected to be named offensive coordinator of the New York Giants, a source confirmed to the Palm Beach Post. His job now is to get the franchise back on track. He got the first interview for the job after the 69-year-old Coughlin stepped down after 12 seasons and he made an immediate impression. He’s making a quantum leap, and there will be a steep learning curve for McAdoo, now the face of one of the NFL’s flagship franchises and whose responsibilities will grow exponentially.
“We were all impressed with his energy, his enthusiasm, his vision and his desire, ” Mara said in the statement. “We were on the same page and I think we did a really good job”.
Ben McAdoo has officially become the person to follow Tom Coughlin as New York Giants coach.
“He loves coaching and if that’s what he wants to do, who am I to tell him to stop?” In McAdoo’s West Coast offense, Manning completed 62.6% of his passes for 4,432 yards, with a career-high 35 touchdowns against 14 interceptions in 2015.
This season under McAdoo, the Giants are ranked sixth in terms of total points in the league. He was coaching, I don’t recall the school, somewhere up in NY or Connecticut [McAdoo was at Fairfield in 2002, Pittsburgh in 2003], and we talked on the phone that evening and then the next day at lunch. Koetter was interviewed Tuesday for the job. He has had offensive coordinator stints with the Jaguars, Falcons and Bucanneers. They will face the New England Patriots on Saturday in a divisional-round game. Perhaps the Eagles were pumping him for information or advice, or they actually wanted to hire him and he didn’t like the terms. “No further interviews are scheduled”. “That makes me feel a little better”. He had been the offensive coordinator for the Bengals. Sullivan was sacked after the 2013 season. The Browns are his second shot.
As Haslam nearly eludes to, one of Jackson’s biggest tasks will be figuring out the future of the quarterback position. “From a selfish standpoint, yes, I’d like to be in the same offense”, Manning said.
“I think there are some similarities between [McAdoo] and Coughlin, and their passion for football”, Manning said on WFAN last week. Police who went to his house said it smelled like burning marijuana.
It appears as though the two teams were trying to outwit each other and with the Giants having more pieces it was easier for the G-Men to force the Eagles hand in the entire situation.
