Giants’ Josh Brown has support of teammates
We’re gonna need him. “Every player, we’re going to need them”. Pierre-Paul said when asked Monday about the possibility of the Giants releasing Brown.
“No”, he said. “Why should we cut him?” “Every guy needs a chance”.
“Who knows, you weren’t there”, Pierre-Paul added when asked about the accusations against Brown.
Brown was suspended for the first regular-season game by the NFL on Wednesday for a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy.
Brown was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault/DV in May 2015 when he allegedly grabbed the wrist of his then-wife, Molly, during an argument in their home in the state of Washington. The charge was dismissed five days later. On Thursday, the Daily News first reported that the kicker’s ex-wife, Molly Brown, accused him of being physically violent toward her more than 20 times.
Brown was arrested previous year and charged with assault in the fourth degree/DV, according to the police report. The Giants signed the 37-year-old to a two-year, $4 million extension this past offseason. But they have refused to explain why they are comfortable with keeping Brown on their roster. Giants general manager Jerry Reese and co-owner John Mara declined to speak with reporters over the weekend in Buffalo.
As for the locker room reaction to Brown’s suspension, Pierre-Paul indicated it wasn’t an issue.
“Bullock has four accrued seasons in the National Football League (he has played three and was on injured reserve as a rookie in 2012), so if he is on the Giants” opening day roster, he can elect to have his base salary for 2016 guaranteed.
“I don’t like people knowing about my business, and my situation, so I try to keep out of people’s situations unless they come to me and ask for help”.
