Giants LB Jon Beason limited at Friday’s practice
An angry Jon Beason accused 49ers guard Alex Boone of grabbing him from behind and deliberately pushing him in the back in a “cowardly” move Sunday night game that caused the Giants middle linebacker to sustain his first concussion. According to Beason, he was the victim of a “coward move” by 49ers offensive lineman, Alex Boone, which is why he was concussed. Beason claimed that Boone’s block pushed the linebacker into the line of Hyde.
Boone said he doesn’t believe he is a dirty player, adding he is sorry that Beason feels the way he does. It could have been a lot worse.
“If you’re frustrated, just call me”, Boone said. He has been cleared, practiced on Friday, and expects to play on Monday against the Eagles. “Alex Boone came up to block me, I got over the block and I had cleared him”.
“He then reached out, horse collared me, and then pushed me”. Beason missed the rest of the game with a concussion and missed practice Wednesday and Thursday before returning Friday in a limited role. “We were blocking, tackling and running”, said 49ers coach Jim Tomsula, noting he was standing on the sideline very close to the play. “I mean, nobody wanted Beason to get hurt”, Tomsula said. Unga makes for a solid IDP option if Beason can’t play, but the situation should otherwise be avoided. I never saw Hyde because my head was down. So I never saw Hyde because my head was down, which I’ve been tackling people for a long time. “Like I said, I think it’s a coward move”. But when you do something illegal, that’s why it’s called a clip for a reason.
“There’s no reason to push anybody in the back in football”, Beason said.
“That’s one downside from moving the official from behind the linebackers to the other side”, Beason said.
“You don’t see it because most guys”, he said, “they care about the competition and there’s a level of sportsmanship in our game”. “I respect everybody in it. If that’s how he feels then good for him”.
“They said I was stumbling after the play, and when you look on film, it does show that”, he said.
