Giants’ Odell Beckham loses ban appeal
The one-game suspension, which prohibits Beckham from playing in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, was issued on Monday and upheld on appeal Wednesday.
Beckham will miss the game Sunday night at Minnesota. He would be barred from team meetings, attending or watching practices; attending Sunday’s game; or having contact with any club personnel except to arrange off-site medical treatment or rehabilitation.
Beckham will be reinstated on Monday, Dec. 28.
Odell Beckham Jr has been suspended for one game following his unsafe play against Carolina cornerback, Josh Norman. The league also fined Norman $26,044.00 for his part in the unprecedented game-long fight within the game. After all, National Football League players are modern day gladiators who make their living playing in stadiums filled with fans who cheer each brutal hit.
Beckham certainly deserved the suspension for running backwards over 20 yards to deliver an egregiously uncalled-for helmet-to-helmet hit on the Panthers’ Josh Norman, as guilty as Carolina may have been in provoking him.
In the days that followed, Beckham was ravaged on social media and by sports commentators, and on December 23, his appeal was shot down, and rightfully so.
“I apologize for my actions on Sunday”, Beckham wrote. His absence could be a huge factor for a team barely in playoff contention.
Beckham claimed that Panthers players intimidated him with a baseball bat before the game, and there’s indeed video of a Panthers practice squad player walking into the Giants’ pregame stretch routine with a bat and calling out to Beckham (it should be noted that he’s not carrying the bat in a threatening manner).
Since a suspension under these circumstances has never occurred, Beckham’s team were well within their rights to challenge its validity. He loves to play and he does not want the sacrifice of a game. That might be able to help Randle reach the century mark in receiving for the first time since Week 3.
The Raiders promoted linebacker John Lotulelei from the practice squad to take Edwards’ spot on the 53-man roster.
“A scheme’s a scheme, but to say that it’s going to produce, we haven’t had the numbers”, Williams said Wednesday. Now, Beckham Jr.’s former teammate is coming to his defense and denying that his friend is gay. You see what kind of player he is and you pull back the layers of skin and you really see what it is.
Asked if he or the Panthers directed homophobic slurs toward Beckham, Norman said: “I don’t know what you’re talking about”. Rivera has also announced that he was going to forbid his team from bringing baseball bats on the field for the rest of the season.
The incident lasted less than a minute, Wing, said.
“We definitely have to take advantage”, said Randle, who leads the other receivers with 51 catches, 638 yards and six touchdowns.
Wing characterized it as “a legitimate threat” that started when Beckham offered his hand and the bat-wielding Panther refused to shake it. “He’s hurting the game”, Jackson said.
