Giants trying to get Chancellor
This is true. The Giants did make that call.
The Seahawks and Chancellor aren’t getting anywhere, as he has three more seasons on his deal and the Seahawks don’t open up contracts with more than one year left on them. The Giants pursued safety Devin McCourty in free agency, but he re-signed with the Patriots.
Kam Chancellor is one of the best in the business at his position.
While this trade seems very unlikely at this time, the New York Giants have been cutting some sizable salaries, like Steve Weatherford’s and Henry Hynoski’s, which may help them land Chancellor. Who can forget his incredible special teams play against the Carolina Panthers in the playoffs previous year?
That will be all for this article Seahawk fans, you guys can go back to praying for Chancellor’s return. But if the Seahawks can’t sign him to a new deal, they may have no choice but to ship him out.
Second, he’d cost a lot to acquire.
This constitutes as initial interest without any concrete evidence the Seahawks plan on dealing Chancellor. Seattle had to trade center Max Unger and a first-round pick to get Graham and a fourth rounder. By talking with the Giants, even if not seriously, and then leaking that to the press, they send a message to Chancellor and his agent. Putting pressure on him to end his holdout makes flawless sense. He’s not all of a sudden going to show up in New Jersey and be happy about the same contract he has right now in Seattle.
Chancellor and Seattle have been embroiled in a contract dispute, as the talented safety is willing to sit out for the entirety of the 2015 season, according to NFL’s Michael Robinson, who is also Chancellor’s former teammate.
Although it’s unclear what the precise asking price for Chancellor would be, it’s safe to assume the Giants would probably have to part ways with two high draft picks. Should something change – say, Seattle decides it wants to dump him and move on – expect the Giants to try to get to the front of the line to acquire him.
